Charles William Davenport (M.D. 1961, Residency and Fellowship 1966) died March 23, 2021, at the age of 85. He attended Roosevelt High School in Wyandotte, Michigan, before earning his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Michigan. Following an internship at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo, Davenport returned to U-M to complete a residency and fellowship in adult, child, and adolescent psychiatry, earning board certification in both neurology and psychiatry.

Davenport practiced child psychiatry at Michigan Medicine until 1976, when he was recruited to develop a child psychiatry program at the Medical College of Ohio at Toledo. There, he supervised and planned the building of a child and adolescent hospital, serving Northwest Ohio. Davenport remained at the Medical College of Ohio until his retirement in 1997, after which he served as emeritus professor and consultant on resident and fellow education for several years.

During his career, Davenport was a member of several medical professional societies, including the American Psychological Association, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Professors of Child Psychiatry. He served on numerous school committees and was a consultant for the county and state at Maumee County Youth Center. He also wrote many articles on psychiatry.
