1960s

Richard S. Panush (M.D. 1967), professor of medicine in the division of rheumatology at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine, received the APDIM (Association of Program Directors of Internal Medicine) Distinguished Medical Educator Award from the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine.

 

1970s

Harold L. Kennedy, M.D (Fellowship 1970), MPH, a Missouri cardiologist, published “Aging and Health for the US Elderly: A Health Primer for Ages 60 to 90 Years” (University of Missouri, 2021).

Thomas L. Schwenk (M.D. 1975), retired dean of the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine and vice president of health sciences at the University of Nevada, Reno, was honored by Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak, who proclaimed August 31, 2021, to be a day in honor of Schwenk. Previously, Schwenk was the chair of the Department of Family Medicine at U-M.

 

1980s

Mark R. Paschall (M.D. 1983), a family medicine practitioner in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, and longtime program director for the Ascension St. John Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program (2004-2021), was selected as Educator of the Year in Family Medicine by the Michigan Academy of Family Physicians.

 

1990s

Elisa P. Bell, M.D. (Fellowship 1995), a Chicago-based psychiatrist, published “Are You Culturally Competent?” (BookBaby, 2020), an in-depth examination of culturally competent care.

Andrew Pasternak (M.D. 1993), a family medicine physician at Silver Sage Center for Family Medicine in Reno, Nevada, was inaugurated as the 117th President of the Nevada State Medical Association.

Fazlur R. Zahurullah (M.D. 1995), MBA, has been named chair of the Department of Surgery and Surgical Specialties at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford. He has been on the faculty since 2001.  

 

2000s

Natasha Bagdasarian, M.D. (Residency 2008, Fellowship 2010), MPH, was appointed chief medical executive for the state of Michigan by Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

Brian D. McBeth (M.D. 2000, Residency 2004), a physician executive at the County of Santa Clara Health System in California, recently published a chapter in “Mobile Medicine: Overcoming People, Culture and Governance” (Productivity Press, 2021).
